Class Descriptions
| Prenatal |
Blackbird prenatal yoga classes offer a multi-level opportunity to strengthen and stretch your body, and are specifically designed to help you prepare for childbirth. This class is for experienced yoga mamas and those new to yoga as well. The intense demands of labor and parenting require strength and flexibility in both mind and body. Yoga can help you develop your first and best parenting skills by developing mindfulness, grace, appreciation for and connection to your body and its amazing powers! |
| Yoga with Baby/ Postnatal newborn – crawling |
Enjoying a yoga class with your infant will strengthen the emotional, physical and spiritual connection you intrinsically share. This class is a wonderful way for new parents to build or rediscover strength, energy, flexibility, and balance of the body (and mind!) through a series of gentle poses, while also bonding with your babies and other parents. Whether you are a biological or adoptive parent, new parenthood is beautiful, exhilarating and terrifying! We focus on specific areas such as neck and shoulders, abdomen, lower back, and pelvis. Come to any of our postnatal classes when you feel ready (most come 3-6 weeks postpartum). The class is gentle, safe, and personalized to meet your needs. Come ignore your sleep deprivation with us for an hour and you might actually leave refreshed and energized! Childcare is available for older sibs during this class. |
| Parent/Toddler crawling – 2 years |
This class is perfect for those of you who “graduate” Postnatal when your little one is on the move. The class format offers something for parents (solo adult yoga sequence while toddlers play in the supervised playroom for the first 20 minutes of class), as well as toddlers (songs and creative movement), and will bring you together in some playful partner poses and exercises. |
| Parent/Child walking – 5 years |
Looking for a special way to bond with your child that both of you will enjoy? Parent/Child Yoga is Family Yoga for the younger set; it’s for all of you who wish to spend some quality time with your little one while also moving your body and using your creative spirit. Embrace your inner child and watch your child grin ear-to-ear as you moo like a cow and act completely silly, just as they do. Adult-friendly modifications are often given in class so that mom and dad get some yoga of their own. Come play! |
| Kids Yoga
|
Yoga has been proven to have wonderful benefits for kids; it increases strength, flexibility, coordination, self-awareness, and self-esteem. Yoga poses inspire creativity (we turn our bodies into trees, mountains and animals!), as well as provide a sense of calmness and relaxation. Yoga philosophy encourages teamwork and teaches respect, compassion and sharing. This class presents an opportunity for kids to get together to have fun with movement and become mindful of themselves and the world around them. |
| Tween 9 – 12 years |
The tween years are characterized by changing bodies, relationships, and questions of self-identity. This class blends physical strength-building postures, breathwork, and relaxation, providing tweens with a special place to explore these physical and emotional shifts within themselves. This class will help tweens enter into the teen years with a healthy attitude towards themselves, self-awareness, confidence, and a strong sense of community, while also forming friendships and hopefully laughing a lot! |
| Teen |
This class brings teens together to explore how yoga can help them better understand and appreciate their changing bodies, relationships, and life on and off the mat. Yoga can help teens move through the often-challenging teen years and emerge with healthy ways to address stress and find balance. Blending physical strength-building postures, breathwork, and relaxation, this class helps empower teens and inspire self-awareness and body confidence. This class also presents a wonderful opportunity for teens to come together, laugh, and build friendships within the Blackbird community. |
| Family ages 4 and up |
Bring your entire family to yoga and practice together! This class presents an opportunity to cultivate emotional and physical bonding within your family and the community. Family Yoga includes postures for the whole family, including age- and intensity level-appropriate variations to accommodate all of the students in the class and make sure that everyone has fun. Blackbird loves families of all sorts – your family can only be defined by you. Bring anyone you love and have fun! All yogis age 5 and up are welcome in this class. |
