“If you know the delights to be found in the waters, the forests, and the heavens, and know how to experience their magic, you are truly rich.” ~Emerson

When we can spend time taking in the beauty of nature, it helps us to realize the higher truth of who we are and and how the world provides us exactly with what we need.  When we spend time on the yoga mat, we recognize the inherent beauty that exists within our own selves.   Discover the joys of bringing the two experiences together through our Yoga for Hikers series.   Breathe in the fresh air as you find your own highest alignment.  Series includes: diverse and varied groups hikes with personal coaching on posture and stride, invigorating and restorative asanas both during and after the hikes, pranayama (breath work), and delightful readings from nature writers such as Emerson and Leopold.

About the Instructor: Autumn Hensel became a student of yoga in 2004 to overcome a shoulder injury, and has felt the power of the practice in her life ever since. Her playful and careful instruction focuses on both inner radiance and outer alignment, which creates a nourishing class for all levels. Autumn is honored to have studied with local yoga instructors Iris Mickey and Barbara Flesch, as well as nationally renown yoga instructors Todd Norian and Ann Greene.

In her free time, Autumn loves to play outside in any way she can.  Among her passions are rock climbing, slacklining, and nordic skiing.  She also loves to share her passions with others, and leads weekly nordic ski and cycling groups in the Madison area.

Blackbird Adult Yoga Teacher Heidi Ropa will lead a book discussion and yoga practice on Michael Stone’s book Awake in the World: Teachings from Yoga and Buddhism for Living an Engaged Life.  This book is a compilation of Canadian yoga teacher Michael Stone’s public talks and retreats.  Heidi will be on a yoga and meditation retreat with Michael Stone in Blue Mounds, WI in early June, so she can share additional insights about Stone’s style of Ashtanga Yoga and offer support for beginning a meditation practice.

“How can we live a balanced life in unbalanced times?  How can the practices of meditation and yoga support our relationships, our work lives, and the greater good?  Author, teacher, and psychotherapist, Michael Stone presents the essential insights of mindfulness and yoga, emphasizing the teachings of simplicity and the interdependence of all life.”

The most compelling part of a yoga/meditation practice is how we live it in the world.  We know summer is a busy time – read a couple chapters and come ready to share your insights and receive those of others.
